Valpo Posts Horizon League’s Top Men’s Sports Point Total

Led by regular season championships in basketball, soccer, and baseball, Valparaiso finished atop the Horizon League’s men’s sports standings for the 2011-2012 school year.

The totals are part of the Horizon League’s annual McCafferty Trophy standings which is awarded annually by the Horizon League to a member institution compiling the greatest number of performance points, based on their finish in the League’s 19 championship sports.  For the sports of men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball and baseball, points are awarded based on combined regular-season (60 percent) and championship (40 percent) finishes.  For all other sports, points are based on performance in the League championships.

Valpo totaled 21 points in the men’s sports, two more than Milwaukee and Cleveland State.  Overall in the McCafferty Trophy standings, the Crusaders finished fifth with 32 points, its highest finish since joining the conference.  Valpo was just one point behind fourth place Loyola (Chicago).
