Valparaiso University to Launch Esports Program

Valparaiso University has announced plans for the launch of an esports program that is set to begin in the fall of 2019. The University will offer competitive esports through the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE).

No. 2: Vujanic Wins MVC Women's Tennis Individual Championship

Women’s tennis sophomore Jelena Vujanic accounted for Valparaiso University’s first Missouri Valley Conference title (individual or team) in any sport, winning the No. 1 singles draw of the MVC Individual Championships this fall.


No. 3: Bruno, Sekuloski Break Cross Country, Track & Field Records

The Valparaiso University men’s track and field team saw a pair of athletes shatter records that had stood for 40+ years on Feb. 3 at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.


No. 4: Griffith Sets Women’s Soccer Program Record With Four-Goal Game

When it comes to Senior Day memories, this year’s performance by women’s soccer’s Cory Griffith ranks right up there with the very best. The Valparaiso University men’s tennis team made its fourth straight league championship appearance after a climactic 4-3 victory over four-time defending Summit League champion Denver in a league semifinal in Colorado.


No. 6: Valpo Volleyball Sets NCAA Record For Digs in a Season in the 25-Point Era

The next entry on the Valpo Athletics year-end countdown might be best described not as one moment, but as 2,613 separate moments. The Valparaiso University volleyball team tallied 2,613 digs in the 2018 season, setting an NCAA Division I record for team digs in a season in the 25-point rally scoring era - a feat which is good for the No. 6 spot in our countdown of the best moments in Valpo Athletics this year.


No. 7: Maya Meredith Knocks Down #SCTop10 Buzzer-Beater to Send Game to Double OT

There were many memorable moments in Valpo Athletics in 2018, but only one cracked SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays.


No. 8: Softball's Emily Richardson Throws No-Hitter

Emily Richardson threw the 10th no-hitter in the history of the Valparaiso University softball program, shutting down North Carolina Central in a 3-0 victory on Feb. 18, a performance which comes in eighth in our countdown of the Top 10 moments of the year in Valpo Athletics.


No. 9: Baseball Upsets Host Dallas Baptist in MVC Tournament Debut

The Valparaiso University baseball team made a grand entrance to the Missouri Valley Conference by upsetting host Dallas Baptist in the first game of the 2018 MVC Tournament, a win that ranks ninth in our countdown of the Top 10 moments of the year in Valpo Athletics.

Valpo Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Class of 2019

Five individuals will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 26. Jackie Thomas ’09 Goebel, Wally Hanas ’84, Jeff Horton ’08, Taylor Root ’14 Lopez and posthumous inductee Wally Gilbert ’22 comprise the 22nd class in Hall of Fame history.


Pruess Named Associate A.D. for Compliance and SWA; Weiler Promoted

Valparaiso University Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Sarah Pruess has been hired as Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and will also serve as Valpo Athletics’ Senior Woman Administrator. Pruess, who will begin her duties on Nov. 30, comes to Valpo after spending the last six years as Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance at St. Bonaventure University. LaBarbera also announced that Erik Weiler has been promoted to Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations.


Nominations Being Accepted For Valparaiso Athletics Hall of Fame

Nominations are open through Wednesday, October 24 to be included in the pool of candidates for the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Former student-athletes whose last season of competition was 2012-13 or earlier are eligible to be nominated.
