Starck Named Mid-Con Pitcher of the Week
Monday, April 28, 2003
Valparaiso University's Tom Starck was selected as the Mid-Continent Conference Pitcher of the Week after a masterful performance in a 4-1 victory over Oakland on Saturday.

A junior lefthander from Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph's, Starck struck out a career-high 12 batters without issuing a walk in the 9-inning, complete-game win. He finished the game strong, fanning eight of the final 14 batters. Starck, who retired 15 of the Golden Grizzlies' last 20 hitters, scattered eight hits and allowed one run in the gem. He lowered his ERA to a team-best 3.48.

Starck is the second consecutive Crusader to earn Mid-Con Pitcher of the Week honors as senior Todd Evans was accorded the honor last week.
