Tuesday, May 10, 2005
Terre Haute, Ind. - Indiana State scored four runs in the seventh inning to break open a close game and went on to defeat Valpo 7-1. The loss stopped Valpo's five-game win streak. Brian Rzepka and John Giusti each had two hits for the Crusaders.

Valpo (16-26) took a 1-0 in the first when Rzepka singled and advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt. Kevin Perri followed by lining a single to center field, bringing Rzepka home.

Indiana State (26-22) tied the game with an unearned run in the third. The error set up an RBI opportunity for Rance Fosdick, who delivered a run-scoring single to center.

Dallas Cawiezell hurled a solid 4 innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits. He fanned four and did not walk a batter.

While Sycamore starter Brad Collins kept pace with Cawiezell by allowing one run and five hits over 5 innings, ISU took a 3-1 lead in the sixth on Marcus Artner's two-run single. Artner finished with two hits and four RBIs.

Fosdick had another RBI single in the seventh and Ryan Bond hit an RBI double before Artner belted a triple, scoring two unearned runs.

Six Crusader errors led to four unearned ISU runs. Adam Tyler (3-0) earned the victory with two innings of scoreless relief. Jay Clites (0-1) suffered the loss in relief, allowing one earned run in 2 innings.

Valpo hosts Purdue on Wednesday at the U.S. Steel Yard, the home of the Gary SouthShore RailCats. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
