Valpo Falls to Host Austin Peay in APSU Invitational

Clarksville, Tenn. - A four-run fifth inning by Austin Peay broke open a close game as the host Governors defeated Valpo 6-0 in the APSU Invitational. Colin Reynolds went 3-for-4 and Brian Rzepka and Jon Rupno had two hits each for the Crusaders (0-2).

Valpo, which finished with nine hits, had several scoring threats, advancing runners to third in the first, sixth and eighth innings.

Chris Hyde belted a two-run homer in the fifth to give Austin Peay a 5-0 lead. Earlier in the inning, Brett Luther delivered an RBI single.

The Governors also scored single runs in the fourth and eighth innings.

Jared Walker and Jake Peterson had two hits each for the Governors (3-2). Austin Peay finished with nine hits and committed three errors.

Eric Brauer (0-1) took the loss, hurling 6 innings. The senior righthander allowed four earned runs and six hits, while striking out five and walking one.

Shawn Kelly (1-1) pitched 7 2/3 innings for the win. He allowed seven hits, while fanning eight and walking one.

Valpo concludes the APSU Invitational on Sunday against Wisconsin-Milwaukee beginning at 11 a.m.
