For the second time in three weeks Valparaiso University’s Tyler Deetjen (Saint Charles, Ill./East H.S.) has been named the Horizon League’s Pitcher of the Week.

The senior southpaw went the distance on Saturday afternoon at Gardner-Webb, needing just 71 pitches in his eight-inning complete game effort.  Deetjen allowed just two runs on seven hits despite suffering the loss in a 2-1 game.  He did not walk anyone and struck out two.

Deetjen, who was also the league’s Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 20, has posted a 3.48 earned run average, sixth in the conference, while leading the league pitching 20.2 innings in three strikes.  Opponents are hitting just .266 against the lefty, and he has walked just four while striking out nine.

Deetjen and the Crusaders play a two-game series at Wake Forest on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to Campbell for three games this weekend, including a twinbill to wrap up the series on Saturday.
