Valpo Falls to Boston College

Bradenton, Fla. - Boston College scored five runs in both the seventh and eighth innings and went on to defeat Valpo 14-2. Senior Troy Garrett had two hits for the Crusaders.

Valpo (0-6) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kevin Kutansky singled home Jeff Rickert. Boston College (3-5) scored one run in each of the first and second frames and added two more in the fifth on Jason Delaney's home run.

The Crusaders cut their deficit to 4-2 in the sixth when Eddie Hannan scored on an error by the third baseman.

The Eagles plated five in the seventh, highlighted by Garrett Greer's 3-run double, and scored five more in the eighth.

Tom Starck (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs and five hits in 5 innings. The senior lefty struck out four and walked three. Mike Gauthier (1-0) hurled 8 innings, allowing one run and six hits. He fanned four and walked two.

Valpo finished with six hits and committed three errors. Boston College had 14 hits and committed one error.

The Crusaders play Rhode Island on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
