Valpo Falls To Northeastern In Florida

Bradenton, Fla. - Mike Arensdorff went 4-for-4, but Valpo (1-4) was defeated by Northeastern 12-2 in Bradenton, Fla.

Arensdorff and John Giusti had the Crusaders' two RBIs. Colin Reynolds produced two of Valpo's 11 hits, including a triple.

Northeastern (3-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the second. The Huskies added two more in the fourth and fifth frames each for a 7-0 advantage after five innings.

Valpo plated its two runs in the seventh when pinch hitter Chad Pierce singled, stole second, advanced to third and scored on Giusti's RBI groundout to the shortstop. Another pinch hitter, Aaron Cameron, was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on Arensdorff's fourth single of the game.

Northeastern increased its lead to 12-2 with three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth. Tim Bush and Matt Morizio had three of the Huskies' 16 hits. Morizio, Brian Nutting, Josh Porter and Jeff Heriot (home run) finished with two RBIs each for Northeastern.

Kyle Obenauf (0-1) started for Valpo, allowing four earned runs and seven hits in 4 innings. Jim Madison (1-0) earned the victory, yielding two runs and nine hits, while fanning four and walking two.

Valpo committed four errors to one for Northeastern.

The Crusaders continue their Spring Trip Friday by opposing Air Force at 2:30 p.m. in Bradenton, Fla.
