Valparaiso University’s Zach Rodeghero (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic H.S.) has been named the Horizon League’s Player of the Week after leading the Crusaders to a 2-1 mark on opening weekend at Austin Peay.
He is the first Crusader to earn the honor in Valpo’s inaugural season in the conference.
The fifth-year senior hit .727 (8-for-11) and drew five walks for an .813 on base percentage for the three games. He drove in three runs, scored six, and had a pair of doubles.
The Crusader designated hitter went 3-for-4 in game two of the set and wrapped up the weekend with a 4-for-5 performance against the Governors.
Valparaiso will return to action on Friday, again at Austin Peay, to begin a three-game weekend tournament. The Crusaders will also face Illinois State and Indiana in Clarksville, Tenn.
