Former Crusader Matt Lenski Signs with Gary SouthShore RailCats

Former Valparaiso University catcher Matt Lenski has signed a contract for the 2010 season with the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Northern League.

Lenski led the Horizon League in batting average last year for the Brown and Gold, hitting .406 with five homers and 43 runs batted in.  He was a First Team All-Horizon League selection for the Crusaders, slugging .588 with 16 doubles and posting a .482 on base percentage while starting 42 games.

A left-handed hitting catcher, Lenski was also named to the Horizon League’s Academic All-League Team as well as an Academic All-District V selection.

In his career at Valpo, Lenski hit .327 in 89 games with eight homeruns and 61 runs batted in.

The RailCats play in an independent league, and open the 2010 season on May 20 against Kansas City at the U.S. Steel Yard.
