15 Crusaders Earn Spring Academic All-League Honors

15 Valparaiso student-athletes earned spots on the Horizon League Spring Academic All-League teams, as announced by the league office this morning.  Men’s outdoor track and field had five athletes honored, while baseball, men’s golf and women’s outdoor track and field each had three selections to go with one from men’s tennis.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits. A total of 90 student-athletes in eight spring sports were recognized from the league's nine institutions.

Baseball (3)

Nolan Lodden (Jr.) – A Second Team All-Horizon League honoree, hit .327 with 45 runs scored and 34 RBIs on the season. Drew 38 walks on the year, second-most in the league, and ranked 47th nationally in walks per game. Tied for team lead in on-base percentage (.441) and led Crusaders with 10 stolen bases, both of which ranked among the league’s top-10. Owns a 3.893 cumulative GPA as an electrical engineering major.

Dalton Lundeen (Jr.) – Led the Horizon League and ranked among the top-50 nationally with 94 strikeouts on the year. Earned five victories on the mound, including four in league play, and posted a 3.75 ERA. Was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team after tossing a shutout against Youngstown State to open tournament play. Owns a 3.507 cumulative GPA as a marketing major.

Nate Palace (So.) – A First Team All-Horizon League selection, hit .329 on the year with 37 runs scored and 39 RBIs in an injury-shortened campaign. Led Crusaders in batting average, RBIs, home runs (7) and slugging percentage (.579). Ranked fourth in league in both slugging percentage and home runs. Owns a 3.588 cumulative GPA as a sociology/criminology major.

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field (5)

Adam Bruno (So.) – Finished 10th at the HL Outdoor Championships in the 1,500m run. Led the Crusaders during the outdoor campaign in both the 1,500m (3:59.11) and 5,000m (15:42.43) runs. Owns a 3.944 cumulative GPA as a history and secondary education double major.

Jacob Frey (Sr.) – Placed third in the hammer throw at the HL Outdoor Championships with a mark of 195’6”. Led team in the hammer and finished his career second in Crusader history in the event. Owns a 3.701 cumulative GPA as a civil engineering major. Has earned Academic All-League honors on three previous occasions.

Jeremy Getz (Sr.) – Won the javelin throw by 13 feet at the HL Outdoor Championships, the second league title of his career in the event. Broke his own modern school record in the javelin with a toss of 212’9” at the Tennessee Relays. Qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the javelin. Owns a 3.734 cumulative GPA as a communication major. Has earned Academic All-League honors on two previous occasions.

Elijah Owen (Jr.) – Earned All-League honors at the HL Outdoor Championships with a second-place finish in the decathlon, scoring 5,680 points – second-most in program history. Also finished third at league outdoor meet in the javelin throw and eighth in the pole vault. Ranked first on team outdoors in long jump and second in the 110m hurdles. Owns a 3.812 cumulative GPA as a theology major. Has earned Academic All-League honors on two previous occasions.

Christopher Sosnowski (Jr.) – Placed seventh at the HL Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw and ninth in the discus throw. Moved into third place in Valpo program history in the discus (157’10”) and fourth in the hammer (175’2”). Owns a 3.960 cumulative GPA as a finance major. Previously earned Academic All-League honors during indoor campaign.

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field (3)

Liz Bloy (So.) – Earned All-League honors at the HL Outdoor Championships with a second-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase, while also placing fifth in the 1,500m run. Moved into second place in Valpo history outdoors in both the 1,500m run (4:34.16) and the steeplechase (11:03.56). Owns a 3.603 cumulative GPA as a theology & ministry major. Previously earned Academic All-League honors for indoor season.

Sarah Drozdowski (5th/Sr.) – Named the Horizon League Outdoor Athlete of the Year, as well as the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Outdoor Championships. Won the hammer throw at the HL Outdoor Championships and also earned All-League honors in the shot put, placing second. Also tallied a third-place finish in the javelin throw and a sixth-place showing in the discus throw. Advanced to NCAA East Preliminary Round in the hammer, finishing in 22nd place out of 48 competitors. Owns a 3.792 cumulative GPA in the sports administration master’s program.

Kelli Wosick (Sr.) – Placed sixth at the HL Outdoor Championships in the 400m dash (58.84). Moved into fourth in Crusader history in the 400m. Has earned Academic All-League honors on three previous occasions.

Men’s Tennis (1)

Jeffrey Schorsch (So.) – Horizon League Player of the Year. Set new Valpo program single-season records for singles wins (28-7) and doubles wins (30-5), breaking own single-season record for singles victories. Already ranks fourth in career singles wins (55) after just two seasons. Helped lead Crusaders to HL championship match for the first time. Owns a 3.834 cumulative GPA as a geography major.

Men’s Golf (3)

Joe Harris (Sr.) – Finished his senior year fifth on the team and 21st in the Horizon League with a 75.96 scoring average. Earned top-five finishes at the CSU Cougar Classic and the Dayton Fall Invitational. Owns a 3.843 cumulative GPA as an accounting major.

Nick Seitz (So.) – An All-Horizon League selection, finished third at the HL Championship and earned All-Tournament Team honors. Set a new Valpo single-season scoring average record (73.74). Posted four top-five finishes on the year, including setting new program single-round (65) and 54-hole tournament (206) records in a fifth-place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge. Owns a perfect 4.000 cumulative GPA as a biology and chemistry double major.

Eric Winters (Sr.) – Ranked third on the team and eighth in the league with a 74.48 scoring average, third-best in a single season in program history. Posted three top-ten finishes, including a third at Whistling Strait and a fourth at the CSU Cougar Classic. Named HL Golfer of the Week following a seventh-place showing at the Firestone Invitational. Owns a 3.829 cumulative GPA as a finance major.
