Valparaiso University’s football team took a break from spring practice last Saturday and helped furnish housing for the less fortunate in Valparaiso.
“Wow! What a great group of football players and coaches who came out to offer assistance on Saturday,” Kathleen McClure, who organized the event for the team said. “They were able to help us in such a vital way, and we are very thankful for each one who came and all that he contributed.”
Sixth-five players and coaches took part in a variety of jobs, including yard and parking lot clean-up, painting, furniture moving, and some light construction.
“Valparaiso University has at its core the idea of servant leadership,” commented head football coach Dale Carlson. “Our players had a great sense of accomplishment on Saturday knowing they helped to improve living arrangements for those less fortunate.”
The Crusaders are in the midst of spring practice, which wraps up with the annual Brown-Gold game on April 16 at 11 a.m. This Saturday Valpo will have its first scrimmage of the spring.
