The Sports Network announced Monday that Valparaiso running back Jake Hutson has been named The Sports Network FCS National Co-Freshman of the Week, while the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) named Crusader punter Greg Wood its FCS Punter of the Week for their respective performances in Valpo's win at Campbell last Saturday

Hutson earned The Sports Network accolade after rushing for 248 yards, most by a PFL player since 2005, and three touchdowns in the 41-21 win against the Fighting Camels. His 248 yards marked the second-highest rushing total in a single game in Crusader history. The freshman added 159 of his rushing yards and all three touchdowns in the second half, helping to rally Valpo from a 21-13 halftime deficit and giving it a 34-21 lead.

The redshirt freshman ranks third in the PFL in rushing yards, totaling 629 yards over Valpo's first nine games. Hutson is also tied for second in the league with six rushing touchdowns, and is among the league's top-five in all-purpose yardage. Hutson shares Co-Freshman of the Week accolades with Appalachian State wide receiver Sean Price, who caught seven passes for 231 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Wood earned the CFPA honor after being called upon to punt just three times, but placing three perfect kicks. The senior averaged 53 yards per punt and bombed all three of his punts over 50 yards, including one which was downed inside the two-yard line. Another one of Wood's punts turned into a turnover, giving the Crusaders the ball inside the red zone.

Wood currently ranks third in the league in punting, averaging an even 40 yards per kick. The senior has dropped 20 of his punts inside the 20-yard line this year.
