Over 40 Valparaiso University football players showed up in shifts of three hours apiece on Saturday, April 27 to help repaint the Hilltop Neighborhood House. For years the Hilltop House has been a mainstay to “children throughout the community with a single focus: to provide individualized, quality care and education to nourish the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical skills that children will carry with them on their journey through life.”

The Hilltop House which is located off of Union and College Street is also directly across from the Valpo Law School. The group of players that volunteered spent the majority of their Saturday on scaffolding and the rooftop painting the exterior of the building. The first shift began at 8 a.m., and by the time the third shift of players arrived at 2 p.m. all that was left was some minor trim work and clean-up.

"I am just so proud of the turnout we had to show the community we’re more than just a football team,” assistant coach Kasey Teegardin said. “Our players really took pride in what they were doing today and each of them understand that it was for a great cause. Having 40 guys show up for this event speaks volumes of the type of high character kids we have at Valpo.""

The football team continues its community involvement this week as players head to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Portage, Valpo and South Haven for the NFL Play 60 Flag Football events.
