Davidson jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead on the way to defeating Valparaiso 48-14 on Saturday afternoon at Brown Field.
Jonathon Hubbard had four touchdown runs on the afternoon, including a nine and one yard run in the opening quarter as the Wildcats jumped in front early. Chris Hampton recovered a fumble for a touchdown on a bad snap as Valpo was in punt formation and Beaux Jones added a 38 yard reception before halftime.
Hubbard's third touchdown run of the day, from seven yards out, made it 34-0 Davidson before the Crusader offense got on the scoreboard.
Ryan Doerffler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia H.S.) connected with Nicholas Henton (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle H.S.) from 15 yards out with 4:58 to play in the third.
After another Hubbard touchdown carry as well as a Matt McGreevy 23 yard touchdown scamper, Doerffler threw one more touchdown pass for the Crusaders. This one covered 66 yards to Steve Ogden (Wauwatosa, Wis./West H.S.) for the game's final score.
Ogden finished with five grabs for 118 yards, giving him 1,311 career yards, moving into tenth place on the Brown and Gold's career receiving list.
Valpo finished the game with 252 total yards, including just 12 on the ground. Davidson (5-3, 4-1 PFL) racked up 492 yards of total offensive, including 247 on the ground. Hubbard finished with 114 yards on 27 carries.
Crusader punter Mitch Secrest (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland H.S.) booted a career-long 56 yarder in the opening quarter which went out of bounds inside the one yard line to highlight the special teams effort.
Charlie Thompson (Sheyboygan, Wis./North H.S.) led Valpo's defense with nine tackles.
Valparaiso (2-7, 1-5) will close out Pioneer Football League play next Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders travel to Dayton, Ohio. Kickoff against the Dayton Flyers is set for 12 p.m. CST with all of the action carried live on the Valpo Sports Radio Network.
