Greg Wood (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.) earned Second Team All-Pioneer Football League honors for his efforts punting the football this season while six other Valparaiso University players received Honorable Mention accolades.  Sean McCarty (Waukesha, Wis./West H.S.) and Nate Blair (Crete, Ill./Andrean [Ind.] H.S.) earned Honorable Mention honors on the offensive side while Nikko Carson (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township H.S.), Cody Gokan (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein H.S.), Pat Derbak (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg H.S), and Laurence Treadaway (Detroit, Mich./Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s H.S.) represented the defense.

Wood, a junior, finished the season averaging 42.0 yards per punt this season, second in the PFL.  He has ranked among the top-15 punters all season long and landed 16 of his 76 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line.  He launched 15 punts 50 or more yards, including a career best 76-yard kick.  Wood is a two-time All-Conference selection, earning First Team honors last year.

McCarty, a fifth-year senior wide receiver, led Valpo with 418 yards receiving on 26 catches.  His 16.1 yard per catch average also led the Brown and Gold and he hauled in one touchdown pass.  McCarty is now a two-time Honorable Mention All-PFL pick.

Blair, a senior offensive lineman, started 33 straight games for the Crusaders at left tackle, helping to anchor the Valpo line.  He earned his third straight Honorable Mention All-PFL accolade.

Carson, a senior defensive lineman, tallied 42 tackles for the Brown and Gold this season, including 28 solo stops.  He led the Crusaders with 13.5 tackles for loss and registered 5.5 of the team’s 10 quarterback sacks.  A two-time Honorable Mention All-PFL selection, he also forced a fumble and recovered another.

Gokan, a redshirt-junior linebacker, finished third on the team with 73 tackles, including 33 solo stops.  He intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble for the Crusaders on his way to earning his second straight Honorable Mention honor.

Derbak, a sophomore linebacker, earned his first career PFL honor this season.  He led the Brown and Gold with 87 tackles, including 48 solos. He had 6.5 tackles for loss on the season and also intercepted a pass.

Treadaway, a fifth-year senior defensive back, was second on the team with 81 tackles on the year.  He forced three fumbles and intercepted another pass to wrap up his Crusader career. He battled back in 2011 to start every game after missing all of 2010 with an injury, forcing him to redshirt.
