Valpo Football Announces Future Nonconference Games
Head coach Landon Fox helped Valpo finish in the Top 5 in scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense and passing defense all in the same year for the first time in over 19 years this season.

The Valparaiso University football program has announced eight nonconference games for the future seasons.

The 2020 football season will kick off with a Thursday night affair as Valpo visits North Dakota on Sept. 3. The Fighting Hawks finished the 2019 season ranked No. 24 nationally in Division-I FCS and made an FCS Playoff appearance. This will mark the third all-time meeting between the two teams and first since 2013, when North Dakota prevailed in the season opener for both teams.

The 2020 nonconference slate will also feature the return game of a home-and-home with Central Connecticut State after the two teams met at Brown Field in 2019. The Blue Devils finished the 2019 season with an 11-2 mark and made an FCS Playoff Appearance after winning the Northeast Conference with a perfect 7-0 league record. Valpo is slated to make its way to New Britain, Conn. for a game on Sept. 19, 2020.

The Brown & Gold will face a considerable test on Sept. 11, 2021, visiting FCS football powerhouse North Dakota State. The Bison are currently 13-0 and went 8-0 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference this season. The two-time defending national champions are set to play in the quarterfinal round of the FCS Playoffs this weekend. They are ranked No. 1 in the nation by both the AFCS FCS Coaches Poll and the FCS STATS poll. This will mark the second meeting between the two teams and first since 2004.

Valpo will begin a home-and-home with Dartmouth on Sept. 18, 2021 at Brown Field before visiting Hanover, N.H. on Sept. 17, 2022. The Big Green won the Ivy League title in 2019 after finishing 6-1 in league play and 9-1 overall. They finished the year ranked 20th in the AFCS FCS Coaches Poll and 21st in the FCS STATS poll. The 2021 faceoff will mark the first time Valpo and Dartmouth have met on the gridiron.

Valpo will start the 2022 campaign by visiting Illinois State on Sept. 3 for the fifth meeting between the two teams and just the second since 1948. Valpo also began the 2016 season in Normal, Ill. The Redbirds are currently ranked 13th nationally by STATS and 14th by the AFCA. They have two wins in the FCS Playoffs and will compete in the quarterfinal round this weekend.

The team has also inked a home-and-home with Northeast Conference member Saint Francis for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The series will begin on Sept. 16, 2023 at Brown Field and continue on Sept. 21, 2024 in Loretto, Pa. Valpo previously split two meetings with the Red Flash in 2003 and 2004.

Additional nonconference games are expected to be added to Valpo’s upcoming slates.
