Valparaiso University men's basketball coach Homer Drew announced the appointment of Greg Tonagel as director of basketball operations. Tonagel succeeds Jason Hawkins, who was named head men's basketball coach at Calumet College at St. Joseph's.

Tonagel, who was a guard for the Crusaders from 1998-04, played a prominent role during his career. As a sixth-year senior in 2003-04, he played the last 14 games, helping Valpo to its 8th Mid-Continent Conference Tournament title and 7th NCAA Tournament appearance.

?It is wonderful that we are able to keep Greg in our program," Drew said. ?He was very instrumental in our success over his career.
?Greg is a really good addition to our staff as he possesses great knowledge and tenacity as a competitor."

As director of basketball operations, Tonagel will be responsible for film exchange and assisting in on-campus recruiting, team academics, team travel, summer camps and coaching clinics.
