Haanpää Named Scholar-Athlete of the Week
Tuesday, December 18, 2007

The honors continue to roll in for Crusader sophomore guard Samuel Haanpää (Kerava, Finland/Cornerstone [Texas] Christian), who was named the U.S. Army Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week today following his record-setting weekend.

Haanpää, who received the league’s men’s basketball Player of the Week accolade on Monday, averaged 26 points per game in Valpo’s two victories last week.  The sophomore broke current associate head coach Bryce Drew’s record for 3-pointers in a single game by knocking down ten triples against Chicago State on his way to a career-best 32 points.  He also added a game-high 20 points earlier in the week in the Crusaders’ win over Evansville.

In the classroom, Haanpää boasts a 3.79 grade point average as a sports management major.  He was also named to the Mid-Continent Conference All-Academic Team as a freshman.
