A strong incoming recruiting class for the 2013-2014 season got even stronger on Wednesday, as Valparaiso men's basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced that Illinois Mr. Basketball 2012 runner-up Keith Carter has transferred to Valparaiso and has enrolled in classes for the spring semester.

Carter transferred to Valpo from Saint Louis, where he played in just three games this season as a freshman while dealing with a foot injury. He will become eligible at the end of the 2013 fall semester, with three seasons of eligibility remaining.

"We're extremely excited to be adding Keith Carter to the Valpo family," said Drew. "He is a proven winner and a player who should have a great impact on our program. Valpo fans will really enjoy watching Keith, along with our five incoming freshmen, next season."

Carter was a four-year letterwinner at Proviso East H.S., capping his career by finishing as runner-up for Illinois Mr. Basketball 2012 to Duke commit Jabari Parker. He led the Pirates to a 32-1 record in his senior season and a runner-up finish in the 4A state championship, earning First Team All-State honors from the Associated Press and Chicago Tribune along the way. Carter, who averaged better than 20 points and five assists per game as a senior, also earned All-Conference accolades during his sophomore and junior seasons.

Carter will join the Crusaders' five incoming freshmen, all of whom signed NLIs in the early signing period - Jubril Adekoya, Nick Davidson, Alec Peters, Lexus Williams and Clay Yeo - as newcomers on Valpo's 2013-2014 squad.
