Nine Crusaders Earn Academic All-League Recognition

Valparaiso placed nine student-athletes over six sports on the Horizon League's 2012-13 Winter Academic All-League Teams, as announced by the league office today.

Three men's indoor track and field athletes and a pair of women's indoor track and field athletes were honored with the academic honors, while one Crusader apiece from men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming and diving and women's swimming and diving rounded out Valpo's honorees.

Men's Basketball (1)
Ryan Broekhoff - Sr. - Repeated as a First Team All-Horizon League honoree while finishing second in the league in rebounding and fourth in scoring. Also repeated as a First Team All-District selection and was named to the Lou Henson mid-major All-America team. Owns a 3.451 cumulative GPA as a kinesiology major.

Women's Basketball (1)
Tabitha Gerardot - Jr. - A Second Team All-Horizon League selection. Finished seventh in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding. A Three-Time Horizon League Player of the Week. Registered 11 double-doubles on the season. Owns a 3.907 cumulative GPA as a French and Spanish double major. Earned the athletic department's Finishing at the Top award.

Men's Swimming and Diving (1)
Fernando Aguilar - So. - Ranked third on the team in both the 200 (1:49.54) and 500 (5:02.88) freestyle events during the 2012-13 campaign. Also competed throughout the season in the 50 and 100 frees. Owns a 3.516 cumulative GPA as a mechanical engineering major.

Women's Swimming and Diving (1)
Andrea Bretl - Jr. - Swam the gamut of freestyle events for the Crusaders, ranking second on the team in the 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 frees. Scored points for Valpo at the league championship meet in the 1000 and 1650 frees. Moved into Valpo's all-time top-10 in four different events, including second in the 1650 free (17:47.65). Owns a 3.907 cumulative GPA as a psychology major.

Men's Indoor Track and Field (3)
Wally Bradford - Sr. - Finished eighth at the league championship meet in the mile run. Led Valpo during indoor campaign in both the 3,000m and mile runs. Moved into third in Crusader history in the mile (4:14.90). Owns a 3.409 cumulative GPA as an elementary education major.
Jacob Frey - So. - Finished sixth at the league championship meet in the weight throw and eighth in the shot put. Led the Crusaders during the indoor season in the weight throw. Owns a 3.667 cumulative GPA as a civil engineering major.
Andrew Rixon - Sr. - Ranked among top-eight in the league during indoor campaign in both the shot put and the weight throw. Led the Crusaders in the shot put and ranked second on the team in the weight throw. Owns a 3.649 cumulative GPA as a civil engineering major.

Women's Indoor Track and Field (2)
Jessica Richardson - So. - Earned fifth-place finishes at the league championship meet in both the 3K and 5K. Posted third-fastest 5K (17:33.29) and fifth-fastest 3K (10:12.69) times in Valpo history during indoor season. Owns a 3.919 cumulative GPA as an economics major.
Kelli Wosick - So. - Finished 11th at the league championship meet in the 400m dash. Moved into third in Crusader history in the 400m with a top time of 59.59 seconds. Also ranked second on the team in the 200m dash. Owns a 3.936 cumulative GPA as an English and secondary education double major.
