The Horizon League announced today that Crusader senior guard Jarryd Loyd (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) has been named the league’s inaugural Sixth Man of the Year.

The senior guard has come off the bench in all but one of Valparaiso’s 31 games this season, averaging 11.6 points and 4.1 assists per game.  He leads the team and is fourth in the Horizon in assists, and is also second on the Valpo squad in scoring.  In league play, Loyd paced the circuit with a 1.87 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Loyd has made his mark on the Crusader record book as well in his final season.  With 127 assists this year, he is currently tied for tenth in a single season in Valpo history in the category.  He now has 391 career helpers, fourth-most all-time at Valpo, and also ranks tenth among Crusaders in career 3-point percentage, hitting at a 39.5% clip behind the arc for his career.

Loyd and his teammates begin Horizon League Championship play on Tuesday when the Crusaders host Green Bay at 7 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
