Valparaiso junior guard LaVonte Dority (Chicago, Ill./Foreman [USF]) has been named the Horizon League co-Newcomer of the Week today after his stellar debut for the Crusaders on Saturday.

Dority was a key component in the Crusaders’ win over Missouri State.  After sitting out the first semester due to NCAA transfer regulations, the junior came off the bench against the Bears to play 24 minutes, ending the game leading all players with 20 points.

Dority connected on four of his seven field goal attempts, including 3-6 from behind the 3-point line, and was also 9-of-10 from the free throw line.  He hit 5-of-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch to help secure the Valpo win.  Dority also chipped in two rebounds, two assists and two steals, both of which turned into Crusader 3-pointers on the other end.

Dority and the rest of the Crusaders return to action this evening against Oakland at 6 p.m. CT.
