Valparaiso men's basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that Jake Diebler has stepped down from his position as assistant coach for the Crusaders in order to take a job as video coordinator with the Ohio State men's basketball program.

“I would like to thank President Heckler, Mark LaBarbera, the entire Drew family, and especially Bryce Drew for the opportunity to have worked within Valpo's basketball program,” said Diebler. “Valparaiso is a great university and I am blessed to be an alumnus, but what has made my time here most special are the people I worked with daily. The last eight years have been the most influential in my life, and I'm thankful I spent them with my Valpo basketball family, university family, Calvary Church family, and greater Valparaiso community family.”

Diebler spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Crusaders, helping lead Valpo to 48 victories and a pair of Horizon League regular season titles. He helped coach the Crusaders to the league tournament championship this past season, a bid into the NCAA Tournament and a program-record 26 wins. Diebler previously spent the 2010-2011 season as director of basketball operations and the 2009-2010 campaign as a student assistant.

Diebler joined the Crusader coaching staff prior to the 2009-2010 season following a four-year career on the hardwood in the Valparaiso uniform. He set the program's Division I record, starting all 98 games over the final three seasons of his career, and ranked among the top-10 in the Horizon League in a trio of categories as a senior.

“I have been blessed to work with one of the best coaching staffs in the country during my time at Valparaiso, and I am excited to integrate the things I have learned here with one of the elite programs in college basketball,” said Diebler. “It's been a privilege to be a part of the storied tradition here, and I'm excited about the future of the program. Valpo Basketball's best days are ahead thanks to the great people who work here and support the program.”
