Peters, Franklin Named Athletes of the Month

Valparaiso sophomore men's basketball player Alec Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington) and freshman women's basketball player Dani Franklin (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/George Washington) have been named the athletic department’s Student-Athletes of the Month for December.

Peters averaged 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Crusaders in December, leading the way as Valpo posted a 6-1 record for the month. Peters scored 20 or more points four times and recorded a pair of double-doubles. Among his top performances were a 21-point effort in a road win at Eastern Kentucky - a game in which he hit a career-high seven 3-pointers - and a 23-point second-half performance in a come-from-behind win at IPFW.

Franklin averaged 14.8 points and 6.0 rebounds for the Valpo women's basketball team in December, scoring in double figures in each of the month's final five games. She was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week on Dec. 15, following 18-point, six-rebound efforts at South Dakota and against Illinois, going 8-of-12 from the floor in the latter game. Franklin capped the month with a career-best 25 points in just 19 minutes of action against Purdue Calumet, going 10-of-18 from the field.
