Crusaders Season Ends at NCAA Regionals

The Valparaiso University men's cross country team saw its season come to a close with a 27th place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Saturday morning in West Lafayette, Ind.

Wisconsin was the regional winner, with Eastern Michigan also earning an automatic bid to the championships, while the Crusaders compiled 852 points.

Matt Blume (Logansport, Ind./Pioneer H.S.) led the Brown and Gold with a 136th place finish overall with a time of 33:48 over the ten-kilometer course.

Doug Brown (Lima, Ohio/Allen East H.S.) was second across the line for the team, 156th overall, with a time of 34:12. Adam Piaskowy (Crete, Ill./Crete Monee H.S.) was seven spots behind Brown, 14 seconds back.

Jeff Kondraschow (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale H.S.) finished fourth for Valpo and 184th overall with a time of 35:42, while Mark Landmeier (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles H.S.) rounded out the scorers in 194th place, crossing the finish in 36:15.

Jon Schiemann (Hemlock, Mich./Valley Lutheran H.S.) completed the Crusaders line-up in 198th place with a time of 36:49.
