Valpo Men Compete in Windy City

Six members of Valparaiso's men's cross country that did not run at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday competed Saturday at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational held in Chicago, Ill., with the team placing 46th out of 52 teams.

Loyola (Ill.) won the race that saw 514 competitors run with 80 points.

Kyle Jones (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) led the Crusaders with a 234th place finish overall, completing the eight-kilometer course in 27:35. David Iott (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger H.S.) was second on the squad with his 339th place finish in a time of 28:49.

Mike Landmeier (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles H.S.) crossed the line third for the Brown and Gold with a time of 30:22, while Matt Kariger (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth H.S.) was fourth finishing in 30:42.

Phil Martin (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) rounded out the scoring with a time of 31:25, while Jeff Johnson (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South H.S.) completed the line-up, finishing 13 seconds behind Martin.

Valparaiso will take a week off from competition before returning to action on October 18. The squad will again split with some individuals competing at the Pre-NCAA Meet in Cedar Falls, Iowa and the rest running at the Wisconsin-Parkside Open in Kenosha, Wis.
