The Missouri Valley Conference has announced that Valparaiso University will host the 2019 MVC Cross Country Championship, which will be held at Sunset Hill Farm County Park in Valparaiso, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Site awards were approved by the league’s Joint Committee (faculty athletics representatives, directors of athletics and senior woman administrators of each institution) and are subject to ratification at the MVC Presidents’ Council meeting on June 13.

This will mark Valpo’s second time hosting an MVC Championship in any sport after doing so in women’s golf in April 2019. The last time Valpo hosted a conference championship in cross country was the Horizon League Championships on Oct. 27, 2007, also at Sunset Hill Farm County Park.

Under the direction of longtime head coach Mike Straubel, who enters his 33^rd season leading the program, Valpo will return several standouts for the 2019 campaign. Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill. / University) shattered program records in the 8K and 10K in 2018 on his way to First Team All-MVC honors as a redshirt junior in 2018. The 2019 women’s squad will be led by Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio / Finneytown), who was a Google Cloud Academic All-District Team selection by CoSIDA as a junior. She has cracked the Top 10 in program history in two events, the 5K and 6K.
