Valpo Concludes Play Sunday at Ball State

Valparaiso shot a 316 in the final round on Sunday to give the Crusaders a tournament total of 951 to finish in 14th place at the BSU Cardinal Collegiate held at Sultan’s Run Golf Course in Jasper, Ind.

Evansville won the tournament by two strokes over Bowling Green with a score of 889 over the 6,862-yard, par-72 course.

Austin Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Ill./Badger H.S.) led the way on Sunday for the Crusaders, shooting a 77, his best round of the event.  He finished at 242 for the tournament.  Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward H.S.) carded his third straight 78 on Sunday to finish at 234, leading the way for the Brown and Gold. 

Josh Kalita (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) shot  80 in the final round to shoot 237 for the tournament while Andy Webb (Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence H.S.) carded an 81 on Sunday.  Adam Gray (Portland, Ind./Jay County H.S.) finished with an 84 in the final round.

“We’re gaining the experience and hopefully we’re able to put together a whole tournament together over the next couple of weeks,” head coach Mike Higdon said.  “We have some positives to build upon coming off of Butler and then here.”

Matt Schneider of Bowling Green won the individual title, shooting three under-par 213 after three straight 71s.

Valparaiso will return to the links on Friday in Bloomington, Ind. for the adidias Hoosier Invitational hosted by Indiana.
