Valparaiso’s men’s golf team finished in seventh place at the Horizon League Championships which concluded Sunday at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The Crusaders shot a final round 313 to finish the tournament at 944, just one stroke behind Detroit and Loyola (Chicago) for fifth place. Valpo finished nine shots ahead of eighth place Butler. Cleveland State won the tournament posting 925, seven shots ahead of Wright State and 11 clear of Youngstown State. Green Bay placed fourth, shooting 940.
Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold in the final round, carding a 76 to finish at 234, good for 11th place overall. Josh Kalita (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) was two shots behind for the tournament, posting 236 after shooting an 80 on Sunday over the 6,933-yard, par 72 course.
Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward H.S.) shot a final round 79 to finish at 237 while Thomas Wettstein (Neenah, Wis./Xavier H.S.) posted a 78 to finish the tournament at 239. Andy Webb (Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence H.S.) turned in an 80 over the final 18 holes to shoot 241.
Cleveland State’s Andrew Bailey and Michael Klaric both shot eight over par 224 to claim the top spot.
