Valparaiso men's golf head coach David Gring announced today that former Crusader golfer Andy Webb has rejoined the program as a volunteer assistant coach.

"Andy was one of our team captains for the past two years and his leadership on and off the golf course was exceptional," said Gring. "He is one of the most competitive persons that I have ever met, and balanced that with a great attitude and demeanor. He was always keeping the guys loose, making practices and travel even more enjoyable."

Webb was one of the members of the initial class of freshmen for the revival of the Crusader men's golf program in 2009-10, a class whose careers culminated last year with the Horizon League Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. He played in 35 events for Valpo over his four-year career, posting his best season average (77.3) as a senior.

Webb shot Valpo's low individual round for the 2012-13 season, carding a 68 in the final round at the Bradley Invitational in a second-place finish. He also came up big for the Crusaders at last season's Horizon League Championship, carding three birdies on the front nine in the final round en route to a 73 to help Valpo claim the league title by four strokes.

"Andy's golf acumen is tremendous, being able to identify and work with great golf talent throughout the State of Indiana and across the country," said Gring. "I'm honored to have Andy on our coaching staff, and he will continue to help develop our golf program and win championships."
