Valparaiso’s men’s golf team wrapped up the fall portion of the 2011-2012 season on Tuesday, moving up one place at the U of Dayton Fall Invitational to finish in a tie for 12th place with a 36-hole total of 620.
The Crusaders improved by 12 strokes in the final round, posting an 18-hole score of 304 to finish in a tie with Youngstown State, just two shots behind Detroit. IUPUI won the team title in a playoff with Dayton after both shot 585 for two rounds.
Austin Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold with a one-over par 72 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 13th overall. The junior turned in a two-round score of 148 on the 7,055-yard layout.
Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East H.S.) added a 76, improving by six shots from round one to finish at 158. Thomas Wettstein (Neenah, Wis./Xavier H.S.) and Joe Harris (Washington, Iowa/Washington H.S.) each added final round scores of 78 to for totals of 160 and 162 respectively.
Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward H.S.) finished second for the team overall in the tournament at 157 after carding a final round 81 while Andy Webb (Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence H.S.) shot 85 in the final round to finish at 161.
IUPUI’s Michael Davan won the individual title at three-under par 139 (71-68).
