Wittmann Featured in MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight
Mitchell Wittmann holds a 3.97 GPA.

As the Valparaiso University men’s golf team has continued its tradition of success both on the course and in the classroom over the last four seasons, senior Mitchell Wittmann (Kaukauna, Wis. / Kaukauna) has been a major factor.

Wittmann was recognized for his academic and athletic achievements on Wednesday as he was featured in the weekly Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company.

Wittmann owns a 3.97 grade point average in finance with a minor in business analytics. He has served the community by volunteering his time mentoring junior golfers from first through eighth grades during the summer. The Valpo senior teaches young golfers everything from simple swing mechanics to etiquette and course management.

On campus, Wittmann is a member of Valpo’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where he offers input on rules, regulations and policies impacting the lives of fellow student-athletes. He is the treasurer of Valpo’s Student Alumni Association, where he enhances the relationship between current students and alumni through organizing events such as Homecoming and the Grad Grill.

In addition, Wittmann is a member of the Financial Management Association on campus. In that organization, he attends meetings that provide resources for job searching, careers in finance, finance certifications and networking while engaging in discussions that go beyond the scope of the classroom.

On the course, Wittmann ranks fourth on the Valpo squad, averaging 76.0 strokes per round, including one top five finish and two top 10 finishes. This week, Wittmann carded a 151 over 36 holes at the Butler Spring Invitational as Valpo placed tied for fifth among eight competing teams.

This recognition adds to Wittmann’s list of academic-related honors as he was a 2018 MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention and a member of the 2017 Horizon League All-Academic Team. In addition, Wittmann was recently recognized at Valpo’s academic honors banquet as he earned the department’s Finishing at the Top Award, which is presented to senior student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 or higher. Wittmann was a part of the Valpo team that led the nation in team grade point average three years ago.
