Friday, September 13, 2002
Ben Olson's (Oregon, Wis./Oregon H.S.) goal with 8:38 remaining lifted Valparaiso to a 2-1 upset victory over 22nd ranked Wisconsin on Friday evening at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Valparaiso.

Olson took a Jon Flugstad (San Antonio, Texas/Robert E. Lee H.S.) cross off of a restart and headed the ball into the back of the net past Eric Hanson, allowing the Crusaders to retake the lead they had just a minute prior.

Valpo (2-2-1) and the Badgers played a scoreless opening half of soccer, with the majority of play taking place in the middle third of the field. Wisconsin (4-1) outshot the Crusaders 5-2 in the opening stanza, holding a 2-1 advantage on net.

Mark Korba (Portage, Ind./Portage H.S.) gave the Brown and Gold the lead at the 49:13 mark as he scored off of a quick restart by Flugstad that was chipped over the Badgers defense.

Erol Goknur tied the match at 80:03 when he curled in a free kick from 20 yards out on the rightside. Olson and Flugstad then took advantage of the restart 1:19 later.

Valpo outshot Wisconsin 9-8 for the match and held an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks. Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made three saves for the Crusaders between the pipes, while Hanson made two for Wisconsin.

The match delayed for 1:15 prior to the start of the match and was moved from Eastgate Field to Thomas Jefferson Middle School when Wisconsin became stuck in traffic and a field with lights was needed.

The Brown and Gold will return to action to close out their three match homestand on Sunday afternoon against Xavier. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Eastgate Field.
