Valpo Shutout by Western Michigan to End Preseason Schedule

The Valparaiso men's soccer team ended the exhibition portion of their schedule on Sunday afternoon in Kalamazoo, Mich. with a 4-0 loss to Western Michigan.

Jeff Hughes scored three times for the Broncos, including two in the second half to propel the hosts to victory. Hughes found the back of the net at 32:22 of the first half, then just 2:41 into the second stanza and again with just 1:19 left in the contest. Giuliano Teixeira scored the other goal for Western Michigan.

Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made three saves for the Brown and Gold in the first half, while Sean McGinnis (Barrington, Ill./Barrington H.S.) made the same number in the second half.

Western Michigan outshot Valpo 17-8 for the match.

The Crusaders, which dropped all three exhibition games, will open the regular season on Friday afternoon when they host Southwest Missouri State. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Eastgate Field.
