D.J. Catrow (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central H.S.) scored one goal and helped set up another as Valparaiso recorded its first Mid-Continent Conference victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, defeating IUPUI 2-0 at Eastgate Field.

The two schools battled to a scoreless first half with Valpo outshooting the Jaguars 8-7 and holding a 4-3 advantage on goal.

Catrow started the scoring at the 50:22 mark as he got through the defense after receiving a feed from Owen Hoyt (Spring Grove, Ill./Prairie Ridge H.S.) and beat goalkeeper Peter Brasovan from ten yards out in the box.

Catrow then tried to add another goal at the 54:22 mark when he went in alone and was brought down in the penalty area by Brasovan, resulting in a penalty kick and a red card to the IUPUI keeper. Mark Korba (Portage, Ind./Portage H.S.) stepped up and fired the penalty kick past back-up netminder Brian DiPiro to give the Brown and Gold a 2-0 lead.

Playing a man down, IUPUI could not find the back of the net, as Valpo improves to 4-7-3 overall and 1-1-2 in Mid-Continent Conference play. IUPUI falls to 8-6-1, 0-3-1 in the league.

Valpo outshot the Jaguars 18-11 for the match and held a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks won. Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made seven saves for the Crusaders while Brasovan made four stops and DiPiro one for IUPUI.

Valparaiso will head to Kansas City, Mo. on Friday afternoon for a 3 p.m. conference tilt with UMKC.
