Ohio State Knocks Off Valpo 2-0

Two second half goals were the difference on Sunday afternoon as Ohio State defeated Valparaiso 2-0 at Eastgate Field.

Ohio State outshot the Crusaders 8-2 in the opening stanza, but Valpo goalkeeper Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made three saves to keep the match scoreless.

The Buckeyes got on the scoreboard at the 62:52 mark as Sammy Tamporello scored on a rebound after Taylor Kopieski's shot from the outside hit the cross bar.

Ryan Kustos added an insurance tally at the 73:00 mark after receiving the ball from Eric Schwebach. He fired on goal from 15 yards out in the box and beat Oleck to the far post.

Valpo had its chances in the second half, firing five shots on goal, three by Jon Brighton (Warner Robins, Ga./Houston County H.S.), but Casey Lathem made saves on all five.

Ohio State (9-5-2) outshot the Crusaders 16-11 for the match, but Valpo had six corner kick opportunities to the Buckeyes four.

Valparaiso (4-9-3) will head out on the road Friday afternoon as the Crusaders travel to East Lansing, Mich. for a 2 p.m. CST match against Michigan State.
