Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Schwarz (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and sophomore forward Steve Shively (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) have been named to the 11-player Academic All-Horizon League Men's Soccer Team, as voted upon by the league's faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors.

Schwarz was named the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year this season.  During the 2007 campaign, Schwarz set a Crusader single-season record with a 1.57 goals against average, and lowered his GAA to 1.02 in league play.  He also ranked 17th nationally, averaging 5.24 saves/game.  In the classroom, Schwarz holds a 3.36 GPA as a business major and was named to Valpo's Dean's List in the spring of 2007.

Shively appeared in all 18 games for the Crusaders in 2007, pacing Valpo in goals (5) and points (10).  His five goals were tied for eighth-best among Horizon League players.  One of his goals was of the match-winning variety, while three others served as the Crusaders' lone goal in 1-1 draws.  In the classroom, Shively holds a 3.57 GPA as a double major in psychology and chemistry.
