Schwarz Earns Academic All-District Honors

Valparaiso redshirt junior goalkeeper Ryan Schwarz (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V Team, as announced by CoSIDA today.  Schwarz is now eligible for Academic All-American consideration.

On the pitch this year, Schwarz has been stellar in goal for the Crusaders.  He has played every second in net and holds an 8-6-1 record on the season with a goals against average of 1.15, on pace to shatter the team’s single-season GAA record.  Schwarz has also posted five shutouts on the season, tied for second in the league and on Valpo’s single-season clean sheets chart, just one off the school record.  His save percentage currently sits at a career-high .776, second in the Horizon League.

In the classroom, Schwarz maintains a 3.67 grade point average as a finance major.  Previously a member of the Academic All-Horizon League squad in 2007, he has earned league Academic Honor Roll recognition all four semesters Valpo has been a league member.  Schwarz has also been named to the Dean’s List and received Presidential academic honors during his time at Valpo.

To be eligible for Academic All-District, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be either a starter or key reserve.  District V consists of schools in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario and Manitoba.
