Serratore Captures Defensive Player of the Week Honor

On Monday, Crusader goalkeeper Tom Serratore (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) was selected as the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after helping Valparaiso secure a league point in a 0-0 draw at Green Bay.

Serratore played a vital role in the draw over the weekend, making five saves in the match. Serratore produced his most important save late in the match when Green Bay’s Jordan Dover was able to fire a shot on goal in the 107th minute. Dover’s chance seemed certain to find the top corner of the goal until Serratore extended to push the ball over the crossbar and keep the match level at 0-0. With that save, Serratore secured a league point on the road and earned both his second shutout of the season and his career.

Serratore and the rest of the Crusader men return to action this Saturday night at Brown Field. Valparaiso will host second-place Milwaukee in a crucial Horizon League contest. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT. The match can be viewed live on the Horizon League Network and live stats will be available through ValpoAthletics.com.
