Sunday, November 2, 2003
Two first half goals were all that Western Illinois needed as the Leathernecks defeated Valparaiso 2-0 on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Eastgate Field.

Justin Langan put Western Illinois (10-5-2, 4-1-1 Mid-Con) in front at the 12:35 mark, scoring from 15 yards out after taking a long ball from Bob Wallace on defense and beating Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.).

Lorenzo Zignago added an insurance goal at the 40:43 mark scoring after a Valpo giveaway in the penalty area.

The Leathernecks outshot the Crusaders 12-7 in the contest, and held a 6-1 advantage on goal. Oleck made three saves for the Brown and Gold, while Armen Tonianse made the only save for Western Illinois, taking over for David Hanlon at the 55:24 mark.

Western Illinois held a 7-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities, and there were 42 fouls called in the match. Valpo was whistled for 20, while the Leathernecks were guilty of 22 fouls.

Valparaiso (2-12-2, 1-5) will conclude the 2003 season next Saturday afternoon as the Brown and Gold travels to Madison, Wis. to take on the Wisconsin Badgers. Kickoff is set for noon.
