Saturday, September 24, 2005
UMKC scraped out a second half goal and made it stand up in a 1-0 win over Valparaiso Saturday, the Mid-Continent Conference opener for both clubs.

Ali Dorri headed in a cross from Kyle Brewer in the 62nd minute, his first goal of the year, for the deciding tally.

The Crusaders came out firing, recording nine shots in the first half and out-shooting UMKC 13-12 for the match. Valpo also took 10 corners, but their goal-scoring drought continued. The last Crusader goal came September 11 against Northern Illinois, a span of three plus matches and over 275 minutes.

Sophomore Sean McGinnis (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) got his third straight start in goal, recording three saves but taking the loss. Todd Dohlman also made three saves, earning the win for the Kangaroos (2-3-2, 1-0-0).

Valparaiso (1-6-0, 0-1-0) returns to Eastgate Field tomorrow for a non-conference match against IPFW. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
