Six Crusaders Earn Fall Academic All-League Honors

Six Valparaiso University student-athletes earned spots on the Horizon League Fall Academic All-League teams, as announced by the league office this morning.  The men’s soccer program had two student-athletes honored, while women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s cross country and women’s cross country each boasted one honoree.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits. A total of 52 student-athletes in five fall sports were recognized from the league's nine institutions.

Men’s Cross Country

Jesse Greenhagen (Jr.) – Ran among Valpo’s top-five runners in each of his five races in 2015. Led the Crusaders at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, covering the 10K course in 34:10.2. Posted season-best 8K time of 26:11.4 at Bradley. Owns a 3.713 cumulative GPA as a mechanical engineering major.

Women’s Cross Country

Hannah Schilling (Sr.) – Contributed to Valpo’s team score in each of her five races this season. Ran as the third-fastest Crusader at the season-opening Crusader Open – where she finished 16th overall – and at the Horizon League Championship – where she posted a season-best 6K time of 24:28.59. Owns a 3.354 cumulative GPA as a nursing major.

Men’s Soccer

Jordan Aidoud (Sr.) – Started all 17 matches he appeared in as a midfielder in 2015. Tied for second on the team with three goals scored, including an insurance tally in a victory at #18 Western Michigan. Also found the back of the net in wins over Western Illinois and Green Bay. Closed his career with 12 goals and seven assists. Owns a 3.300 GPA in Valparaiso’s international commerce & policy master’s program.

Suleiman Thomas (Jr.) – Appeared in 16 games at forward for the Crusaders in 2015. Earned a start in Valpo’s season opener at Kentucky. Tallied two goals off the bench during Horizon League play, scoring at Wright State and against Green Bay. Owns a 3.921 cumulative GPA as a business management major.

Women’s Soccer

Rita Craven (Sr.) – First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American this season; a First Team NSCAA Scholar All-American choice in 2014. A Third Team NSCAA All-American as a junior, she repeated this year as a First Team All-Horizon League selection. Tallied six goals and three assists in 2015, tying for the team lead in assists and finishing second in goals. Finished her career second in Valpo history in match-winning goals, fourth in assists, eighth in points and ninth in goals. Owns a 3.936 cumulative GPA as a biology major.

Volleyball

Allison Ketcham (So.) – Earned All-Horizon League honors, finishing second on the team in both kills/set and digs/set. Ranked ninth in the league in digs and was the top-ranked non-libero. Finished in double figures in kills on 17 occasions and in digs 22 times. Owns a 3.982 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major.
