Peterson Wins Twice but Valpo falls to Eastern Illinois

David Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highlands H.S.) won a pair of events but Valparaiso dropped a 156-69 dual meet with Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

Peterson won the 200 individual medley by more than two seconds with a time of 2:01.80, while also taking top honors in the 100 breaststroke, outtouching teammate Jeff Ewers (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll H.S.) to the wall by just .06 seconds with a time of 1:02.52.

Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) also won an event for the Crusaders, taking home top honors in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 54.09 seconds.

Bob Schmidt (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville H.S.) earned a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle (22.84 seconds), while also finishing second in the 100 free with a time of 49.64 seconds.

Valpo (2-6) will dive back into the water on February 7 as the Crusaders travel to Chicago, Ill. for a triangular meet with Illinois-Chicago and Cleveland State. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
