Peterson Earns Two Top-Tens at Indiana Intercollegiates

David Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) earned a pair of top ten finishes on the afternoon as Valparaiso finished in fifth place out of eight teams at the Indiana Intercollegiates held in West Lafayette, Ind. on Saturday.

The Crusaders totaled 96 points on the day, well behind champion Purdue's 809 points.

Peterson began his day with a fifth place finish in the 200 individual medley. He touched the wall in 1:59.84, less than a second out of third place. He also finished ninth in the 100 breaststroke. The sophomore finished with a time of 1:01.79.

Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) turned in Valpo's only other top-ten finish on the day. The sophomore finished eighth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55:47 seconds.

The Crusaders will return to the pool next weekend at the Eastern Illinois Invitational. Friday's events begin at 5 p.m. and Saturday's competition begins at 8 a.m. in Charleston, Ill.
