Peterson Wins Twice but Crusaders Fall

Valparaiso dropped its first dual meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 143-109 to Wisconsin-Green Bay at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

David Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) won a pair of individual events on the afternoon for the Crusaders, along with a relay, but it was not enough for the Brown and Gold. The sophomore just outtouched the Phoenix in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:01.75 for his first win of the day. Peterson also won the 200 breast with a time of 2:14.12, a six-second victory.

Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) won Valpo's only other individual event, taking top honors in the 100 fly with a time of 53.19 seconds. He also finished runner-up in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:59.95.

Valpo finished the meet strong as well, winning the 400 free relay. Bob Pedersen (Urbana, Ill./Urbana H.S.), David Kesler (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves H.S.), Peterson, and Smith finished in 3:21.84.

Pedersen was second in the 200 freestyle for the Crusaders with a time of 1:51.70, while also finishing runner-up in the 200 butterfly (2:12.65).

Greg Stock (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood H.S.) finished second in the 100 backstroke while Josh Stamper (DeMotte, Ind./Kankakee Valley H.S.) was second in the 50 free with a time of 26.13 seconds.

Valpo (2-1) will head to the Ball State Invitational next weekend in Muncie, Ind. Friday's events begin at 5 p.m. CST with Saturday's starting at 8 a.m. CST.
