Valpo Men Fourth at Ball State Invite

Led by three top-three finishes by David Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.), Valparaiso finished in fourth place at the Ball State Invitational held Friday and Saturday in Muncie, Ind.

Valpo tallied 335.5 points trailing Ball State (1101.83 points), Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Baldwin Wallace. Butler was fifth.

Peterson finished second Friday night in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:58.90, just .19 seconds off the pace. He also was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.02) and second in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.59) on Saturday.

Jeff Lange (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional H.S.) was seventh on Friday in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:07.06, the only other individual top-ten finish on day one for the Crusaders.

On Saturday, Bob Pedersen (Urbana, Ill./Urbana H.S.) tied for third in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 56.33 seconds. He was also third in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.40.

Greg Stock (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood H.S.) placed ninth in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 59.97 seconds, while finishing sixth in the 200 back (2:14.19).

Valpo will return to the pool December 2-4 as the Crusaders head to Rochester, Mich. for the Mid-Continent Conference Championships. The morning sessions will begin at 9 a.m. CST daily, with the evening events starting at 5 p.m. CST each day.
