Valpo Wins One of Three Meets on Sunday

Valparaiso recorded a victory over Butler but fell to Evansville and Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon in a quadrangular meet held in Carmel, Ind.

The Crusaders downed the host Bulldogs 110-80 and were involved in a tight meet with Evansville, falling 118-94. Valpo also fell 146-72 to Saint Louis.

David Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Schererville H.S.) won a pair of events for the Brown and Gold. He took home top honors in both the 200 individual medley (2:00.12) and 200 breaststroke (2:13.51).

Bob Pedersen (Urbana, Ill./Urbana H.S.) finished third in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 1:52.19 while Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) was third in the 50 free (25.65). Smith also finished third in the 100 free with a time of 49.60 seconds.

Travis Thames (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro H.S.) picked up a third in the 200 backstroke finishing in 2:03.32.

Valparaiso (1-3) will return to the pool November 4-5 at the Eastern Illinois Invitational in Charleston, Ill. Friday's events begin at 5 p.m. and Saturday's action starts at 8 a.m.
