Peterson Wins Two Events on Final Day of House of Champions Invitational

Dave Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) won a pair of events on Saturday at the House of Champions Invitational as the Crusaders finished in fifth place as a team.

The senior won the 100 breaststroke in the morning with a time of 59.45 seconds, bettering a field of 14 swimmers and winning by .14 seconds. In the evening session, he posted a victory in the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.01, winning by more than two seconds.

Adam Jajtner (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington H.S.) posted a pair of top-three finishes on the day. He began with a third place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:24.80, the sixth fastest in school history. He then finished runner-up in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:54.07, the third quickest all-time at Valpo. Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County) also turned in a top-10 finish in the mile, placing ninth with a time of 17:35.69.

Ansel Hillmer (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough H.S.) finished third in the 100 butterfly touching the wall in 54.13 seconds, the seventh fastest mark ever for a Crusader. He then came back and finished fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.10

Kyle Verage (Hubertus, Wis./Marquette H.S.) added Valpo's other top-10 finishes on the day with a ninth place effort in the 200 backstroke (2:05.16) and a 10th place mark in the 100 back (56.34).

Quinn Bobel (Lexington, Ky./Tates H.S.) finished 11th in the 1-meter diving with a score of 151.60 while Ed Standen (Saint Joseph's, Mich./Saint Joseph's H.S.) turned in Valpo's top finish in the 100 freestyle (51.35).

Valpo finished fourth in the 800 freestyle relay while placing fifth in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.

The Crusaders will return to the pool on December 19 at Saint Louis in a quadrangular meet that also includes IUPUI and Centenary. The first event begins at 6 p.m.
