Valpo Drops Tough Meet to Eastern Illinois on Senior Day

             Despite three victories from Adam Jajtner (Port Washington, Ill./Port Washington H.S.), Valparaiso dropped a tough 113-92 decision to Eastern Illinois on Senior Day at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

            The Crusaders honored their lone senior, Ed Standen (Saint Joseph, Mich./Saint Joseph H.S.), prior to the meet.

            “Ed has been an integral part of our team for four years,” interim head coach Barbara Tyree said.  “He had some good swims today to finish up at home.”

            Jajtner cruised to a 30-second victory in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:12.72.  He then won the 400 individual by nearly four seconds with a time of 4:23.91.  He wrapped up the day with a seven-second victory in the 500 free with a mark of 4:56.93.

            “Adam swam excellent and really dominated his races,” Tyree said.

            David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) added a victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.84 seconds.

            “Dave won a fantastic race,” Tyree added.  “It was the race of the day.”

            Ansel Hillmer (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough H.S.) triumphed in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.41 for Valpo while Kurtis Malone (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) posted a season-high score of 234.40 in the one-meter diving, earning a victory for the Brown and Gold there as well.

            Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County) earned a pair of runner-up finishes, doing so in the 200 free (1:49.91) and the 500 free (5:04.04).

            Valparaiso will wrap up the dual meet portion of its schedule next Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders head to Chicago to battle UIC.  The first race is slated for 1 p.m.
